Hon. Uju Kingsley And The Desire for Quality Legislation and Representation

The Honourable Member representing the good people of Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly; Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima has continued to implement his pledge of advancing the desire of the people for quality legislation and representation in a way that promotes service delivery and a better standard of living for the people.

Since his inauguration into the 9^th National Assembly in June 2019, Hon. Uju Kingsley has been visible on the floor of the Federal House of Representatives through his legislative engagements and oversight functions, perhaps due to his wealth of experiences as a successful entrepreneur, an astute politician, administrator of repute, with a proven record of success in administrative governance and business management.

A recent chat with his Special Assistant on Administrative Matters; Mr. Ikechukwu Nnadi revealed that some of the significant motions by Hon. Uju Kingsley on the floor of the House, includes: the Urgent need to domesticate Functional Global Memorandum of Understanding between Oil Companies and their host Communities, Urgent need to check gross criminal negligence of oil production Companies in Imo State.

Also, need to address Investor Apathy in Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry, Motion on urgent need to save souls in Etekwuru Community in Ohaji/Egema caused by fire outbreak as a result of pipeline explosion, and Motion to investigate the extent of compliance with the Procurement Act 2007 by all Federal Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals between 2017 and 2019.

Relatedly, motions supported by Hon. Uju according Mr. Nnadi are: Motion for the expansion of the National Railway from South South to South East, linking Owerri, Oguta and Aba, Motion on urgent need to compel contractor handling the Osemoto Seaport and Naval Base, Oguta to resume work (This was in support of motion in Decongestion of Apapa gridlock), and Motion on urgent need to equip our security agencies to international best practices to meet up with the security challenges in Nigeria (This was in support of motion on the need to curb armed banditry in Zamfara state).

Continuing, Mr. Nnadi noted that the very assiduous, focused and result oriented Hon. Uju has sponsored some inspiring bills. Among them are: Bills for the establishment of a crude oil pipeline protection commission, Urgent need to investigate all abandoned Federal projects worth over 12 trillion naira, Need to investigate loss of over $200 million Revenue by FG to international oil companies on the account of non-metering of oil well Heads, Flow stations and Export Terminals.

Others include the Bill for an Act to establish the National institute of oil and Gas Technology & Entrepreneurial studies in Egbema, Imo state, and Bill for an Act to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999( as Amended) and for other matters connected therewith, reference to section (162) (2) on 13 percent Derivation.

A hardworking, innovative and a strong team player who is detribalized, Uju Kingsley, has within the period in review supported the Bill for an Act to establish College of Education Omu-Aran, Kwara State, and the bill for an Act to establish federal college of Agriculture, Kachia Niger state.

Beyond legislative and oversight functions, Hon. Uju’s activities as a social reforms advocate and a bridge builder are inspiring. In line with his focus driven representative commitment to his constituents and his desire for a better society, Mr. Nnadi further revealed that Uju Kingsley has demonstrated his passion for youth/women empowerment and employment creation in the following areas:

“Ongoing Construction of Umuapu Women Development center; Facilitated employment of over 40 Constituents in Federal Government Agencies, Ministries, Parastatals and Tertiary institutions. More so, through over sight functions, he has been able to attract NDDC interim Management Committee (IMC) to abandoned projects in Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta L.G.As.

“As well, he has attracted Street lights to communities in Oru West and Oguta L.G.As, Empowered women of the Federal constituency through various skills acquisition programs, and provided palliatives for the poor and indigent in his constituency during the Global pandemic”.

Given his achievements so far, we have no doubts that Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima, who rode on the crest of the desire of the people for a progressive ideology and agenda in legislative/oversight functions will improve the dynamism and functionality in quality legislation and the true meaning of representation.
