President Tinubu Pledges to Unlock Ogoniland’s Potential

President Bola Tinubu has committed to unlocking Ogoniland’s human and natural resource potential while ensuring Nigerian communities’ environmental and economic security. This pledge was made during a meeting with the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers of Ogoni at the State House, led by King Samuel Nnee of Tai Kingdom.

According to a press release by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu responded to requests from Ogoni leaders for the resuscitation of oil and gas production in Eleme, Khana, Gokana, and Tai Local Government Areas of Rivers State. He emphasized the importance of healing past wounds and uplifting the livelihoods of the Ogoni people, highlighting his administration’s dedication to the Ogoni clean-up program.

    “The number of people we will empower will increase over time,” Tinubu said. “Peace and stability through the resuscitation of businesses in Ogoniland are crucial for the country’s recovery. We will address safety, environmental, and other challenges diligently.”

    Tinubu also mentioned his administration’s commitment to democratic governance and the empowerment of all Nigerians. He praised the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his efforts to alleviate the plight of the Ogoni people.

      King Nnee commended President Tinubu for his achievements within a year in office, noting the ongoing construction on the Onne-Junction/Eleme-Junction axis of the East-West Road. He expressed the Ogoni people’s readiness to resume oil and gas production, which could contribute $5 billion annually to Nigeria’s GDP.

      The meeting underscored the potential of the Ogoni Economic Rebirth Project and the positive impact on Ogoni people across various sectors.
