Newcastle, UK – Amb. Graham Elendu, President of Africans living in Newcastle, has expressed strong support for Festus Daumiebi Sunday, a Niger Delta youth activist and APC gubernatorial aspirant, who has filed an N20.4 billion lawsuit against the Nigerian Army for alleged infringement of his fundamental rights.

In a press release today, Amb. Elendu called on the Nigerian judiciary to expedite action on Daumiebi’s suit to ensure justice is served promptly. “Daumiebi’s lawsuit follows a March 30, 2024, incident in which soldiers allegedly invaded and vandalized his property in Igbomotoru 1, Bayelsa State.

“I urge the judiciary to act swiftly and ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done. Such actions by the military undermine democratic principles and the fundamental rights of citizens,” Elendu stated.

The Nigerian-UK-based social activist also cautioned the Nigerian Army to uphold democratic values and respect human rights, emphasizing that arbitrary actions against civilians threaten the fabric of democracy.

“Daumiebi’s legal team, led by Prof. O. F. Emiri (SAN), seeks redress for the alleged invasion, destruction, and threat to Daumiebi’s life, liberty, and property, invoking provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
