As the world marks World Humanitarian Day (WHD), Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria has joined the global community in commemorating the lives lost and the ongoing efforts to protect and assist those affected by crises. WHD, established in memory of the 22 humanitarian workers who perished in the 2003 Canal Hotel bombing in Baghdad, continues to serve as a crucial reminder of the need to uphold the safety and dignity of those in humanitarian service.
This year’s WHD campaign, themed #ActForHumanity, confronts the alarming normalization of attacks on civilians, including humanitarians, in conflict zones. The campaign aims to rally public support and press world leaders to take concrete steps to ensure the protection of civilians and aid workers under International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
In alignment with this global cause, Miss Face of Humanity Nigeria has announced that its 2024 National Showcase, scheduled for November in Abuja, under the theme “Shining Stars of Compassion is featuring 14 extraordinary delegates who embody the spirit of humanitarianism and are dedicated to championing various causes that address the pressing needs of vulnerable communities across Nigeria and beyond.
In a press statement, National Director, Blessing Inyang highlighted that the delegates represent diverse backgrounds and advocacy focuses, each committed to humanitarian efforts such as gender equality, children’s rights, combating early child marriage, and supporting mental health.
While noting that their participation in the National Showcase reflects a shared vision with WHD to amplify humanitarian causes and advocate for the protection of those most in need, Inyang called for global solidarity to support the #ActForHumanity campaign, emphasizing the need for collective action to address humanitarian crises and ensure protection for those in need.
Reigning queen Amb. Rita Chika Ezenwa reaffirmed MFOH Nigeria’s dedication to fostering compassion, empowering young women as change agents, and inspiring meaningful action. She urged active participation in the upcoming National Showcase and highlighted the delegates’ commitment to making a lasting impact on lives nationwide.
