Christopher Nkunku made a compelling case for a starting spot in Chelsea’s lineup after scoring a hat-trick in their dominant 5-0 victory over League Two side Barrow in the Carabao Cup at Stamford Bridge. Manager Enzo Maresca made 11 changes to the side that defeated West Ham 3-0, but Chelsea’s quality still shone through early in the game.

Nkunku opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing a lofted pass from Joao Felix. The French striker doubled his tally moments later with a neat flick from Malo Gusto’s cross. Felix, who dazzled throughout the match, added Chelsea’s third before the half-hour mark, his free-kick hitting the post and rebounding in off Barrow goalkeeper Paul Farman.

The second half saw Chelsea extend their lead when Mykhailo Mudryk combined with Nkunku to set up Pedro Neto for his debut goal. Nkunku completed his hat-trick by robbing the ball from a dawdling Farman and slotting it into an empty net.

Nkunku now has six goals in seven appearances this season but continues to fight for a regular place in Maresca’s team. Joao Felix also impressed, providing key contributions alongside other high-profile players.
