In her press statement, Amb. Fortunate described the campaign as a rallying cry for justice and equity, emphasizing that this period should be not only reflective but also an opportunity for collective action. “Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread human rights violations. Every 10 minutes, a woman loses her life to gender-based violence. This alarming statistic calls for immediate and sustained action,” she said.

As part of her message, the MFOH Nigeria Queen urged individuals, communities, and institutions to take concrete steps toward ending violence, highlighting four key action areas, including educating and sensitizing the public on the causes and impacts of gender-based violence, supporting survivors with accessible resources like counseling, legal aid, and shelters, strengthening policies by advocating for stricter laws and protections for survivors, and challenging harmful norms that perpetuate inequality and violence.

While acknowledging progress in Nigeria, Amb. Fortunate stressed that much remains to be done to secure the rights and safety of women and girls. The UNiTE campaign, which runs from November 25 to December 10, aims to push decision-makers toward concrete commitments that safeguard lives and uphold human dignity.
