Max Air flight from Lagos made an emergency crash-landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Tuesday night after the aircraft lost its nose landing gear tyre during landing. The incident occurred at 10:57 p.m. when the tyre burst into flames immediately after touchdown, causing the plane to skid to a halt on the runway.
Reportedly, a passenger onboard, who requested anonymity, described the experience as harrowing but confirmed that no casualties were reported.
Max Air confirmed the incident in an official statement on Wednesday, assuring the public that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated. The airline commended its crew for their professionalism during the emergency. The aircraft was removed from the runway by 04:28 a.m., and the runway was temporarily closed for inspection, which led to some flight delays on Wednesday.
As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) was still investigating the cause of the incident, with the Go-team already on-site to gather evidence.

This is the second emergency landing involving Max Air in the last month, with the first being an engine fire on December 5, 2024, shortly after takeoff from Maiduguri. The airline also faced a temporary suspension of its Boeing 737 aircraft by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in 2023 due to safety concerns.
