At IBB book launch yesterday in Abuja, all living former presidents and heads of state of Nigeria, except Muhammadu Buhari were in attendance. All living former vice presidents were also in attendance. In addition, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima were also physically present. The former president of Ghana Nana Akuffo Addo was in attendance as well. No book launch in Nigeria has ever garnered this elite crowd at the same time.

Grossing approximately a whopping 17 billion naira, IBB’s “Journey In Service” becomes the highest selling book by “launch value” in Nigeria’s publishing history. Whoever sold the idea of a book publication to IBB must be smiling widely to the bank this morning!

A 420-page autobiography, IBB chronicles his life’s history and military sojourn in one piece. His acknowledgement of MKO as the rightful winner of the 1993 presidential election brings complete closure to that dark era in the country’s political history. It however opens up another discussion on the shenanigans surrounding Nigeria’s electoral system. A system fraught with juristic summersaults and political acrobatics. Little wonder the judicial branch becomes a willing tool in the hands of politicians at such odd times in perpetuating illegalities and political brigandage!

One astonishing feature of the launch was the display of unusual willingness by Nigeria’s richest persons to outspend each other at the event. Aliko Dangote and his Kano compatriot, Rabiu Abdulsamad of BUA Group collectively donated a humongous 13 billion. General TY Danjuma gave 3 billion. Prince Arthur Eze of Oranto Oil gave 400 million.

It’s instructive to note that the richest Yoruba man today is an IBB product. The richest Hausa/Fulani man today is also an IBB product. Ditto the richest Igbo man today. In fact the richest woman today in Nigeria is also an IBB product. The richest bankers and oil moguls such as Wale Tinubu and co are all IBB products. The man IBB must have had a date with destiny to create for Nigeria a class of billionaires with capacity to make and replicate inter-generational wealth! The evidence is there for all to see and feel.
