In a historic push for grassroots governance, a high-powered delegation from Aboh Mbaise, Ahiazu Mbaise, and Ezinihitte Mbaise stormed the National Assembly on March 25, 2025, to submit a formal resolution demanding the creation of three additional local government areas in the region.
Led by Surv. Joe Anosikeh, President General of Ezuruezu Mbaise, alongside key political figures, including Hon. Emeka Martins Chinedu (Member, Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency) and Hon. Matthew Nwogu (Member, Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency), the delegation underscored the urgent need for administrative restructuring to foster socio-economic development.
A statement by Nnamdi Ukasanya, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Hon. Chinedu, confirmed that upon arrival, Hon. Chinedu formally notified the National Assembly leadership of the delegation’s presence and intent to submit their demand to the Constitutional Amendment Committee. The delegation was officially recognized during plenary by the Deputy Speaker, further affirming the legitimacy of their request.
Following plenary, the delegation met with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who warmly received them. Hon. Kalu reportedly acknowledged the validity of their request and reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance. He commended the Mbaise leaders for their strategic vision and praised Hon. Chinedu’s relentless advocacy, describing him as a formidable pillar of the 10th Assembly.
The delegation later proceeded to the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, where they formally submitted their resolution and received an acknowledgment copy.
