President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation on Sunday, expressing deep concern over recent violent protests in several states, including Borno, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna. In his broadcast, Tinubu lamented the loss of lives and the destruction of public facilities and private properties, urging an end to the unrest.
Tinubu acknowledged the frustrations of young Nigerians striving for a better future but emphasized the need for peaceful dialogue over violence. He condemned the involvement of politically motivated actors and warned against threats of ethnic bigotry, stressing the government’s commitment to maintaining public order and protecting lives and property.
Highlighting the economic reforms undertaken since his administration began, Tinubu defended the removal of fuel subsidies and the abolition of multiple foreign exchange systems as necessary steps to combat economic mismanagement. He reported significant increases in government revenue, improvements in non-oil sector productivity, and reductions in debt service burdens.
Tinubu detailed various initiatives aimed at economic revitalization, including infrastructure projects, the Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, and support for the youth through student loans and job creation programs. He also announced the introduction of a national minimum wage of N70,000 and ambitious housing projects under the Renewed Hope City and Estate initiative.
Addressing food security, Tinubu revealed plans to increase food production and remove tariffs on essential imports. He assured Nigerians of ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy and improve national infrastructure, calling for unity and collaboration to build a brighter future.
