House Republicans have expressed disappointment over former President Donald Trump’s performance during the highly anticipated presidential debate against Kamala Harris. According to sources, Trump’s lack of composure allowed Harris to dominate, with polling showing a majority of viewers believed she outperformed him.
One anonymous House Republican described Trump’s showing as “sad,” noting that Harris “knew exactly where to cut to get under his skin.” Instead of focusing on key issues, Trump veered into discussions about crowd sizes and false claims, including the assertion that immigrants were eating pets in Ohio, a statement the debate moderator debunked live. Despite this, Trump repeated the claim, distracting from critical topics.
A CNN flash poll revealed that 63% of viewers felt Harris performed better, a stark contrast to Trump’s previous debate success against Joe Biden. Even some of Trump’s supporters admitted Harris had the upper hand, with 69% of them crediting the former president with a better night, compared to the overwhelming 96% of Harris’s supporters who felt she excelled.

Brit Hume, a Fox News analyst, agreed that Harris successfully baited Trump, noting, “She came out ahead in this.” Trump’s false claims during the debate drew widespread attention, especially his comments about immigrants supposedly eating pets in Ohio, a narrative refuted by local authorities and fact-checked live.
The debate comes at a crucial time with polls indicating the race is tight as voters prepare to head to the polls on November 5.
