Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly denied any association with militant groups, describing recent fake videos of purported explosions on oil and gas facilities in the state as malicious and fabricated.
In a statement issued on Monday, March 24, 2025, by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the Governor warned against attempts to link his administration or supporters to criminal activities. The statement condemned the circulation of fake videos allegedly depicting explosions, stressing that the affected communities have debunked the claims, affirming the safety and security of all critical oil and gas assets within their domains.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements anywhere in the State or Niger Delta,” the statement read.
Governor Fubara emphasized his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace, insisting that development and governance can only thrive in an atmosphere of security. He issued a stern warning to individuals or groups attempting to exploit the current political climate to incite violence or cause economic sabotage.

Additionally, the Governor cautioned bloggers and social media operators against spreading false information aimed at sowing tension and chaos in the State. He called on security agencies to investigate and bring to justice those responsible for spreading the fake videos.
“The fake reports and posts in the last couple of days have triggered enough wrong decisions that would not help the State move forward,” the statement concluded.
