In a landmark move to enhance security and improve night-time visibility, Hon. Emeka Martins Chinedu, the Member representing Ahiazu Mbaise/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency, and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on FCT, has launched an ambitious project to install 1,000 state-of-the-art solar-powered streetlights across Ahiazu and Ezinihitte.

The initiative, designed to combat insecurity, support local businesses, and modernize infrastructure, will see 500 solar streetlights allocated to each Local Government Area (LGA). Furthermore, every electoral ward will receive 40 units, ensuring equitable distribution and widespread impact.

Speaking on the project, in a statement by his SA on Media and Publicity; Nnamdi Ukasanya, Hon. Emeka Martins Chinedu reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the well-being of his constituents:

“A well-lit environment is a safer environment. Security and development go hand in hand, and I am determined to ensure that our people enjoy the benefits of modern infrastructure. This initiative will not only deter criminal activities but also boost economic activities, allowing businesses to thrive even after sunset.”

To ensure strategic placement of the streetlights, the lawmaker has directed that each ward nominate a focal representative—to be chosen through the traditional ruler, Nze, President General (PG), or any other recognized community leader. These representatives will collaborate with the project team to identify the most critical areas needing illumination.
