Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has declared a significant milestone in Nigeria’s fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

During a commissioning ceremony of an operational facility donated by the UK Government, Marwa highlighted the agency’s achievements, including the arrest of 50,901 drug offenders, the conviction of 9,034 individuals, and the seizure of over 7,561 tonnes of illicit substances in the past 38 months.

    Speaking in Lagos on Monday, Marwa expressed gratitude to the British Government for their support, emphasizing the importance of the partnership in combating transnational organized crime. The newly commissioned facility, funded by the UK, symbolizes the enduring collaboration between the two nations in the global fight against drug trafficking.

    According to the Press Statement by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Marwa highlighted the significance of the operational complex, stating its role as a vital hub for data analysis and strategic planning to disrupt drug trafficking networks. He praised the agency’s reforms, attributing achievements to partnerships like the one with the UK.

      Acknowledging the officials from the British government, Marwa called for strengthened cooperation between Nigeria and the UK in combating drug trafficking and organized crime. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to the fight against illicit drugs, emphasizing the need for renewed efforts to build a safer future.

      British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Jonny Baxter, assured continued support from the UK government to NDLEA and Nigeria. He emphasized the global nature of the drug trade, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to working with NDLEA to address the challenge.
