In a commendable acknowledgment of Nigeria’s rising sports profile, President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ms. Rena Wakama, the head coach of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on her recognition as the best coach of women’s basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ms. Wakama, aged 32, was honored by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) for her exceptional leadership and strategic prowess that guided D’Tigress to a historic performance at the Olympic Games. Under her leadership, the Nigerian team became the first African basketball team to advance to the quarter-finals, marking a significant milestone for the continent.
President Tinubu highlighted the importance of Ms. Wakama’s recognition, noting that it underscores her dedication to excellence and leadership qualities. He extended his appreciation to the entire D’Tigress team, lauding their efforts and encouraging them to remain resilient in pursuing greater achievements.
