The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has warned the military against premature media propaganda regarding the South East killings.
The group, on Wednesday, called on the Nigerian Army to adopt non-kinetic methods for addressing security challenges in the region and assure residents that their duties are national. This follows the claim by the Chief of Army Staff that the sit-at-home order imposed by IPOB, which caused fear and economic disruption has ended.

HURIWA commended the army for improving human rights observance but urged sustained constructive partnership with South East stakeholders and a proper investigation of recent killings. They demanded justice for victims and raised concerns about Asari Dokubo’s claims of private armed activities in the region.
