In the wake of the abduction of eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by suspected bandits in Zamfara State, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has called on Nigerians to rally behind the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management’s vigorous efforts to secure the prompt release of these innocent captives.
HURIWA implored the kidnappers to release the youths, emphasizing their mission to assist Zamfara’s rural populace with crucial social issues such as education, healthcare, and community empowerment.
The Civil Rights Advocacy Group, in a statement by the National Coordinator; Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko urged both the Zamfara government and citizens to collaborate with NYSC to ensure the safety of corps members posted in the state.
Continuing, the organization questioned the Zamfara Police spokesperson’s delayed response to the incident within their jurisdiction, while commending the NYSC management for their swift and strategic actions to secure the release of the abducted individuals.
HURIWA further stated that the NYSC management’s dedication to the welfare and safety of corps members across Nigeria was evident, given the prevailing insecurity. The group noted that the victims, en route to the NYSC camp in Zamfara, were abducted during their journey from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The NYSC leadership was already on site, coordinating efforts with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of the kidnapped individuals.

The statement urged kidnappers to exhibit humanity by releasing the innocent corps members who came to Zamfara to contribute essential services to the state’s people. HURIWA also underscored the need for robust security measures and intelligence gathering by security agencies to proactively address such criminal acts, emphasizing that these young lives must be safeguarded and promptly returned.
