The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has criticized the lack of transparency, accountability, and immediate intervention in Nigeria’s security crisis.
The organization’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, in a press release, emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and immediate action in response to the recent Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopter crash in Niger State, which was initially thought to be a tragic accident.
The group condemned the spread of misinformation by government authorities, which initially presented the incident as an unfortunate accident. The group also drew attention to the unresolved case of a military jet downed by bandits in Zamfara State in 2021, which casts a shadow on the nation’s security apparatus and underscored the urgency for decisive action.
HURIWA urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant security agencies to prioritize the safety, security, and well-being of all Nigerians, emphasizing the escalating frequency of terrorist attacks and loss of both civilian and military lives.

The group further called upon President Tinubu to shift his attention to addressing internal insurgencies, terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and other major crimes plaguing the nation. The group calls on President Tinubu to display unwavering leadership in confronting these challenges head-on, ensuring the safety of Nigerians is paramount.
