Civil rights group, HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA), has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for promoting over 100 military Generals amid heightened insecurity. The group questioned the criteria for promotions, expressing concerns about collusion between top Generals and terrorists.
HURIWA, in a media statement signed by the National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko argued that the state’s failure to combat terrorism and reward of unmerited promotions reflect a failed state. The organization suggested suspending promotions, especially for Generals, until terrorism is eradicated.
In an end-of-year message, HURIWA called for government attention to security, poverty alleviation, and critical infrastructure. Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko emphasized the need to uphold human rights and the rule of law for a just society in 2024.
